End-of-life electric and electronic devices stand as one of the fastest growing wastes in the world and, therefore, a rapidly escalating global concern. A relevant fraction of these wastes corresponds to polymeric materials containing a plethora of chemical additives. Some of those additives fall within the category of hazardous organic compounds (HOCs). Despite the significant advances in the capabilities of analytical methods, the comprehensive characterization of WEEE plastic remains as a challenge. This research strives to identify the primary additives within WEEE polymers by implementing a non-target and suspect screening approach. Gas chromatography coupled to time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC-QTOF-MS), using electron ionization (EI), was applied for the detection and identification of more than 300 substances in this matrix. A preliminary comparison was carried out with nominal resolution EI-MS spectra contained in the NIST17 library. BPA, flame retardants, UV-filters, PAHs, and preservatives were among the compounds detected. Fifty-one out of 300 compounds were confirmed by comparison with authentic standards. The study establishes a comprehensive database containing m/z ratios and accurate mass spectra of characteristic compounds, encompassing HOCs. Semi-quantification of the predominant additives was conducted across 48 WEEE samples collected from handling and dismantling facilities in Galicia. ABS plastic demonstrated the highest median concentrations, ranging from 0.154 to 4456 μg g -1 , being brominated flame retardants and UV filters, the families presenting the highest concentrations. Bisphenols and phthalates are wide classes of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) extensively used as additives in plastic products. In this study, a fast and reliable analytical method based on matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) coupled with LC-MS/MS was developed and optimized for simultaneous determination of 8 bisphenols and 7 phthalates in raw mussel extract. The LC-MS/MS method was tested for linearity (R 2 ), inter- and intra-day repeatability, limit of detection and quantification, both for matrix-free and matrix-matched solutions. The MSPD method was optimized in terms of ratio between sample and sorbent, and the type and quantity of the eluents in order to maximize the recoveries and to minimize matrix effects. The obtained recoveries (values between 75% and 113%), limits of detection (values between 0.048 and 0.36 µg kg -1 ), limits of quantification (values between 0.16 and 1.28 µg kg -1 ), repeatability (RSD% between 1.30% and 8.41%) and linearity (R 2 > 0.998) were satisfactory and suitable for the determination of target micropollutants in food samples. In addition, the low solvent consumption and fast execution make this method ideal for routinely determinations of bisphenols and phthalates in mussels.

A significant and pressing issue revolves around the potential human exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), which pose a substantial risk primarily through contaminated beverages. However, a comprehensive review for comparison of the migration rates of EDCs into these matrixes is currently lacking. This study reviews the beverages contamination with EDCs, including phthalates (PAEs), bisphenol A (BPA), hormone-like compounds, elements, and other organic EDCs. Also, the EDCs migration into milk and other dairy products, coffee, tea, and cold beverages related to their release from contact materials, preparation components, and storage conditions are briefly summarized. The data illustrates that besides the contamination of raw materials, the presence of EDCs associated with the type of food contact materials (FCMs)and their migration rate is increased with acidity, temperature, and storage time. The highest concentration of PAEs was detected from plastic and synthetic polymer films, while BPA strongly leaches from epoxy resins and canned metal. Furthermore, the presence of elements with endocrine disrupting characteristics was confirmed in cold beverages, soft drinks, hot drink and milk. Moreover, hormone-like compounds have been found to be released from coffee preparation components. Despite the few data about the migration rate of other EDCs including UV-stabilizers, surfactants, and antibacterial compounds into beverages, their presence was reported into milk, coffee, and different beverages, especially in packed samples. Studies on the EDCs leaching have primarily focused on PAEs and BPA, while other compounds require further investigation. A sensitive modified QuEChERS extraction method was developed to assess the levels of free and conjugated bisphenols (BPs) in human milk collected between 2018 and 2019 from two regions of South Africa (the Limpopo Province Vhembe district, n = 194; Pretoria, n = 193) and Canada (Montreal, n = 207). This research examined the impacts of ultrasound, UV light, storage time, and temperature on the leaching of bisphenol A (BPA) from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) drinking water bottles in Turkey. The initial phase of the investigation encompassed the quantification of BPA in two distinct brands of bottled water. Samples were extracted by solid- phase extraction (SPE) and analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection (HPLC-FLD). According to the results in the first part, the highest BPA levels were found in bottled water. In the second part of the study, 10 to 30 min of ultrasound treatment increased the BPA migration with increased time in simulants. Bisphenol analogues (BPs), as one of the endocrine disruptors, have received wide attention due to their adverse impacts on ecosystems. However, the seasonal spatiotemporal distribution, source apportionment, and ecological risk of BPs in natural basins are poorly understood. Especially in highly urbanized river basins with the extensive economic development and anthropogenic activities threaten these critical but ecologically fragile regions. In this study, field investigations of BPs in the waters of the entire Qinhuai River Basin (QRB) were conducted in June (before the annual flood period) and August (after the annual flood period) 2023. The Qinhuai River, an important primary tributary of the lower Yangtze River, is located in eastern China and the QRB is characterized by a high population density and dense urbanization. Thirty-two sites were sampled for six types of BPs known to be ubiquitous in the surface water of the QRB. Significant differences in the concentrations of those BPs were found. Specifically, the concentration of total BPs (ΣBPs) was significantly higher before than after the flood period: 20.3-472 ng/L (mean = 146 ng/L) and 14.1-105 ng/L (mean = 35.9 ng/L), respectively. BPA was the main contributor to ΣBPs before the flood, and BPB followed by BPA after the flood. ΣBP concentrations were 12-241 % higher downstream than upstream of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). The results of a principal component analysis followed by multiple linear regression (PCA-MLR) suggested that untreated wastewater discharge from the WWTPs is an important source of BPs in the basin, with urban rainfall runoff as another potential source after the flood period. Bisphenol A (BPA) and its analogues have been proved to be harmful to human reproduction, endocrine and nervous system. But information on the occurrence and human exposure to bisphenol compounds (BPs) in dust (especially outdoor dust) is limited. In this study, 14 BPs were determined in 174 indoor dust samples and 202 outdoor dust samples from Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. BPA, BPS, BPAF, BPF, BPAP and BPE were widely detected with detection frequencies of 98.94 %, 98.67 %, 97.87 %, 95.21 %, 87.23 % and 71.54 %, respectively. The median total concentrations of the most detected six BPs in the dust were in the order of south urban indoors (556 ng/g) > south rural outdoors (438 ng/g) > south urban outdoors (432 ng/g) > south rural outdoors (418 ng/g) > north rural indoors (412 ng/g) > north urban outdoors (341 ng/g) > north urban indoors (311 ng/g) > north rural outdoors (246 ng/g). The amounts of garbage incineration, plastic output and recycled paper may have influence on the BPs levels. Some BPs (BPAF, BPAP, BPF and BPS) in the indoor and outdoor samples were significantly positively correlated. In addition, the BPs in the indoor dust from different indoor micro environments in Chengdu were investigated. BPA (median concentration: 571.2 ng/g) and BPF (median concentration: 114.3 ng/g) were the two primary BPs, accounting for 78.1 % of the median total concentrations of the investigated BPs. High concentration of BPA appeared in printing workshops and offices, while high concentration of BPAP, BPC, BPE and BPF appeared in electronic repair shops. Occupational exposure to BPs deserves attention in the future. ΣBPs exposure risk for children and adults in the urban areas of southern China was the highest. Bisphenol A (BPA), known for its endocrine-disrupting properties and potential to leach into food products, has led to significant food safety concerns. Therefore, the development of sensitive and selective BPA rapid detection methods is crucial. In this study, molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction coupled to a colorimetric method was adopted for the smartphone-based determination of BPA. The molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was prepared via photopolymerization and used as a selective adsorbent material for SPE columns. The solid-phase extraction (SPE) columns with multiple cycles significantly reduced the extraction time to only 30 min. The developed method demonstrates useful sensitivity for BPA (LOD = 30 ppb). Furthermore, BPA migration from plastic packaging was evaluated under different storage conditions, revealing that microwave treatment for 5 min led to BPA release from polycarbonate packaging in juice and basic solutions. The MIP selective extraction/clean-up and smartphone-based optical sensor were successfully applied to BPA standard solutions and complex food samples (e.g., juice and tap water), resulting in reproducible and selective BPA determination (RSD ≤ 6%, n = 3). The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) recently derived a tolerable daily intake (TDI) for bisphenol A (BPA) of 0.2 ng/kg bw/day. There are several issues with EFSA's hazard assessment review process, including that it was based on a limited subset of relevant studies. Multiple public commenters on EFSA's draft evaluation of BPA, including several European regulatory agencies, noted these issues, yet they were not adequately addressed by EFSA in the final evaluation. The TDI for BPA was based on an intermediate immunotoxicity endpoint in mice that has not been observed in other species; there is no evidence that it is a precursor event to any downstream pathological outcome. The TDI is several orders of magnitude lower than estimates of safe doses of BPA established by agencies worldwide, including EFSA's temporary TDI (t-TDI) for BPA established in 2015. Overall, the EFSA hazard assessment review process has led to a conclusion that there are low-dose effects of BPA based on very few, lower quality experimental animal studies. Exposure to bisphenols has been found to have adverse effects on male reproductive function in animals. Human exposure to bisphenols is widespread. Bisphenol A (BPA) and its analogues, including bisphenol S (BPS), bisphenol F (BPF), and bisphenol AF (BPAF) are utilized in various consumer products such as food contact materials and dental resins. The effects of these compounds on male fertility and spermatogenesis are unclear and findings from human studies are inconsistent. In this cross-sectional study, we evaluated the influence of BPA, BPS, BPF, BPAF (BPs) measured in semen on number of spermatozoa, total motility, progressive motility, morphology, and DNA fragmentation. We also examined the association of bisphenols (BPs) exposure with patients' occupation. A total of 358 patients aged 17-62 years with BMI 18-42 were included in the study from 2019 to 2021. BPs were extracted using solvent extraction followed by preconcentration step and determined by high-performance liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MSMS). Bisphenols were detected in 343 from 349 analysed samples (98.3% of all the samples). In 6 samples, the concentration of all BPs was under the limit of detection and in 20 samples under the limit of quantification. We did not find a statistically significant relationship between occupation and BPs. However, we observed significant correlations between the concentration of BPA and a lower motility and normal morphology. For BPS, a significant correlation with a lower ejaculate volume and a lower total sperm count was found. BPF and BPAF were detected only in 14.3% and 23.9% of samples, respectively. For BPF and BPAF, no significant correlations with spermiogram parameters were observed. Bisphenols' widespread use in day to day life has enabled its existence in various compartments of the environment. Bisphenol A (BPA) is utilized as a monomer in manufacturing polycarbonate plastics, epoxy resins, as well as flame retardants and is also considered as an endocrine disruptor. This study focuses on determining BPA concentration in daily-use food-grade plastic containers, in addition to its toxicity evaluation in environmental samples contaminated by BPA leachates. The highest concentration of BPA was observed in black poly bags (42.78 ppm), followed by slice juice bottles and infant milk bottles. Toxicity tests revealed significant impacts on Rhizobium and Chlorella sp. as a representative species of soil and aquatic environment respectively. To biodegrade the BPA, two potential strains, Brucella sp. and Brevibacillus parabrevis, were isolated from a landfill site. Qualitative and quantitative evaluation of biodegraded BPA through U-HPLC and GC-MSMS showed various metabolites of BPA. Results indicate the native bacterial isolates as potential candidates for BPA degradation while transforming this contaminant to a less toxic and hazardous form. Exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) has been linked to various immune deficiency disorders, including autoimmune diseases like Sjögren Syndrome (SjS). However, the detrimental effects of exposure to EDCs, including bisphenols, parabens, and triclosan (TCS), on SjS have been inadequately documented. Thus, we conducted a cross-sectional study that included both healthy individuals (controls) and patients with SjS (cases). We assessed serum concentrations of bisphenol A (BPA), bisphenol S (BPS), methyl parabens (MeP), ethyl parabens (EtP), and TCS. The relationship between the five EDCs levels and the risk of SjS was also explored. Additionally, we conducted an in-depth analysis of the collective influence of these EDCs mixtures on SjS, employing a weighted quantile sum regression model. Out of the five EDCs analyzed, EtP displayed the highest mean concentration (2.80 ng/mL), followed by BPA (2.66 ng/mL) and MeP (1.99 ng/mL), with TCS registering the lowest level (0.36 ng/mL). Notably, BPS exposure was significantly positively associated with the risk of being diagnosed with SjS (with an odds ratio [OR] of 1.17, p = 0.042). No statistically significant associations with SjS were observed for BPA, MeP, EtP, and TCS (p > 0.05). And we did not observe any significant effects of the EDCs mixture on SjS. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to suggest that BPS may potentially increase the risk of SjS. This study investigated the influence of beverage packaging materials on the presence of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in plastic, glass, carton, aluminium, and tin canned non-alcoholic beverages. Results showed that 63 EDCs including perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), bisphenols, parabens, benzophenone-type UV-filters, biocides, nitrophenols, and alkylphenols, were detected in 144/162 screened products. Detected ∑ 63 EDC concentrations ranged from 1.3 to 19,600 ng/L. EDC concentrations were higher in beverages packaged in metal cans while lower or no levels were detected in glass, plastic, and carton packaged drinks. Bisphenol levels were higher on average in canned beverages compared to glass (p < 0.01) and plastic products (p < 0.05) produced by the same brand and manufacturer. Two structural isomers of bisphenol A (BPA) were identified in 19 beverages, constituting the first detection in foodstuffs. The calculated daily intake of detected EDCs showed that exposure to BPA from per capita beverage consumption of 364 mL/day are up to 2000-fold higher than the newly revised safety guideline for BPA recommended by the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority). Bisphenol F (BPF) has evoked global attentions due to its ubiquity and detrimental effects. Herein, a flexible molecularly imprinted fiber library was firstly proposed for the metabolic analysis of BPF in aquatic ecosystems. The library includes flexible single fibers and fiber arrays to precisely identify BPF and its metabolites with a wide range of polarities. Compared to commercial polyacrylate, the performance increased 11.56-570.98-fold. The adsorption capacity and the LogK ow value were positively related. These arrays were used for the acquisition of environmental metabolomics data from aquatic ecosystems. In-depth data analysis showed that risk quotient was lower than 0.76, and bioaccumulation factor was lower than 2000 L/kg. Distribution concentration of BPF and its metabolites changed seasonally, and accumulation in sediment was much larger than that in surface water and hydrobionts. The risk is gradually increasing in sediment, but it does not reach high risk. The likelihood of bioaccumulation of parent compounds was greater than its metabolites. The methodology of sugaring out-assisted liquid-liquid extraction (SULLE) coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography-fluorescence detection was devised for quantifying bisphenol A (BPA) and bisphenol B (BPB) in beeswax. The effectiveness of SULLE was methodically explored and proved superior to the salting out-assisted liquid-liquid extraction approach for beeswax sample preparation. The analytical performance underwent comprehensive validation, revealing detection limits of 10 μg/kg for BPA and 20 μg/kg for BPB. The method developed was employed to analyse commercial beeswax (n = 15), beeswax foundation (n = 15) and wild-build comb wax (n = 26) samples. The analysis revealed BPA presence in four commercial beeswax samples and three beeswax foundation samples, with the highest detected residue content being 88 ± 7 μg/kg. For BPB, two beeswax foundation samples were positive, with concentrations below the limits of quantification and 85 ± 4 μg/kg, respectively. No bisphenols were detected in wild-build comb wax. Furthermore, the bisphenol removal efficacy of two recycling methods-boiling in water and methanol extraction-was assessed. The findings indicated that after four recycling cycles using water boiling, 9.6% of BPA and 29.2% of BPB remained in the beeswax. Whereas methanol extraction resulted in approximately 7% residual after one recycling process. A long-term study over 210 days revealed the slow degradation of bisphenols in comb beeswax. This degradation fitted well with a first-order model, indicating half-lives (DT 50 ) of 139 days for BPA and 151 days for BPB, respectively. This research provides the first report on bisphenol contamination in beeswax. The low removal rate during the recycling process and the gradual degradation in beeswax underscore the significance of bisphenol contamination and migration in bee hives along with their potential risk to pollinators warranting concern. Nanoplastics (NPs) can come into contact with humans through different means such as ingesting contaminated food or exposure to contaminated air. Recent research indicates that these NPs can act as vectors for other contaminants. Further research is still needed to determine the effects of these interactions and whether they are significant under environmental conditions. Bisphenol A (BPA) and benzophenone (BZP) are possible contaminants that could be cotransported with NPs. Even in low concentrations, BPA and BZP can act as endocrine disruptors and have been linked to several diseases. In this study, we used molecular dynamics simulations to obtain the potential of mean force (PMF) profile between a polyethylene NP and a BPA/BZP molecule. The PMF shows a minimum of -8.0 kJ mol -1 for the BPA, whereas it is -23.5 kJ mol -1 for the BZP, meaning BZP has a much greater attractive potential to polyethylene than BPA. We can infer that the higher quantity of BPA's hydrogen bonds with the water contributes to the difference between BZP and BPA. The results indicate the need to address the possibility of NPs playing a role in the cotransport and bioaccumulation of contaminants in aquatic ecosystems.

This paper focuses on determining the concentrations of phenol derivatives in the gonads of seabirds and examining the potential factors (age, sex and region) affecting the degree of their bioaccumulation. The study involved assays of bisphenol A (BPA), 4-tert-octylphenol (4-t-OP) and 4-nonylphenol (4-NP) in the gonads of long-tailed ducks taken as bycatch from the Southern Baltic region in 2015-2016. Among phenol derivatives, 4-NP was found to reach the highest concentrations in the gonads of long-tailed ducks, and its concentrations were in the range of <0.1-717.5 ng g -1 dw. The concentrations of BPA and 4-t-OP were similar and amounted to <0.4-181.6 ng g -1 dw and <0.1-192.4 ng g -1 dw respectively. The concentration levels of phenol derivatives in the birds' gonads were similar to the levels which had been observed to have negative endocrine effects in other authors studies. This shows that the studied xenoestrogens can interfere with the reproduction and development of birds. Moreover, adult long-tailed ducks had higher concentrations of phenol derivatives compared to immature ones, possibly resulting from long-term bioaccumulation, as well as from diverse pollution in their respective habitats. Particularly in the case of 4-NP, the median concentrations in gonads of adult birds were 2-fold higher than in immature ones. In turn, among adult long-tailed ducks, phenol derivatives were characterized by higher concentrations in males than in females, with almost 3 times and approx. 3.5 times higher median concentrations of BPA and 4-t-OP, respectively. Lower concentrations of phenol derivatives in female gonads may result from the additional elimination of pollutants from their bodies through the transfer of pollutants from mother to egg. Bisphenol analogues (BPs) are commonly used as modifiers, stabilizers and photo-initiators in polymer materials, including those used in food packaging. Compared to adults, infants are more sensitive to chemicals because their bodies are growing and not fully developed. Therefore, it is essential to determine the concentrations of BPs in common infant foods to assess infant exposure and prevent hazards. We collected 54 infant formula (IF) samples, 90 complementary food (CMF) samples and 62 breastmilk samples from breastfeeding women in south China. Tandem mass spectrometry coupled to liquid chromatography separation (HPLC-MS/MS) was used to detect the concentrations of 8 BPs in the three types of food samples. The estimated daily intake (EDI) of infants was also assessed. The results showed that the detection frequency of bisphenol F (BPF), bisphenol S (BPS), bisphenol AF (BPAF) and bisphenol AP (BPAP) were relatively high among the different infant foods. BPF, BPP and BPS were predominant among the detected BPs. The lowest 95th EDI for BPA was 0.67 ng kg-bw -1  day -1 , exceeding the tolerable daily intake (TDI) limit for BPA set by the European Food Safety Authority in 2023. Thus, BP exposure is a significant risk to infants. The most crucial purpose of the measurement is to obtain a reliable result that reflects the actual qualitative and/or quantitative features of the tested material. The overriding goal of analytical chemistry is to obtain accurate results after compensating of various interference effects as well as non-linear calibration dependence. A new approach based on an integrated calibration method (ICM) supported by H-point standard addition method (HPSAM) has been used to improve the quality of analytical results. The proposed methodological approach was extended using the step-by-step dilution procedure, and five measurement conditions were used to eliminate multiplicative, additive, and non-linear interferences. On this basis, a set of estimations is obtained to improve the quality of the analytical results. The analytical usefulness of the proposed approach was tested on the example of the determination of three compounds from the group of bisphenols (BPs) using the chromatographic technique - HPLC-DAD (high-performance liquid chromatography with diode array detection). Compared to the reference method - fluorescence spectroscopy - the obtained results were characterized by excellent accuracy (RE=3 % in most cases). The developed methodology allowed to carry out a risk assessment on BPA, BPF, and BPS present in samples of shop receipts and canned food. Store clerks have been shown to be particularly vulnerable to PBF and BPS in receipts due to skin permeation (exposure factors were equal to 308.97 µg/g for BPF and 181.89 µg/g for BPS). Consumers should also pay close attention to the BPA found in canned food samples (the average concentration was equal to 20.61 µg/mL, and the tolerable daily intake was exceeded over 165.000 times). The presence of emerging water pollutants such as endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs), including 17-ethynylestradiol (EE2), bisphenol A (BPA), and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), in contaminated water sources poses significant environmental and health challenges. This study aims to address this issue by investigating the efficiency of novel calcium-based metal-organic frameworks, known as mixed-linker calcium-based metal-organic frameworks (Ca-MIX), in adsorbing these endocrine-disrupting compounds. This study analyzed the influence of influent concentration, bed height, and flow rate on pollutant removal, with bed height emerging as a crucial factor. From the breakthrough curves, it was determined that the column maximum adsorption capacities followed the order of 17-ethynylestradiol (101.52 μg/g; 40%) > bisphenol A (99.07 μg/g; 39%) > perfluorooctanoic acid (81.28 μg/g; 32%). Three models were used to predict the adsorption process, with the Yan model outperforming the other models. This suggests the potential of mixed-linker calcium-based metal-organic frameworks for removing endocrine-disrupting compounds from water, using the Yan model as an effective predictor. Plastic waste is a pernicious environmental pollutant that threatens ecosystems and human health by releasing contaminants including di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) and bisphenol A (BPA). Therefore, a machine-learning (ML)-powered electrochemical aptasensor was developed in this study for simultaneously detecting DEHP and BPA in river waters, particularly to minimize the electrochemical signal errors caused by varying pH levels. The aptasensor leverages a straightforward and effective surface modification strategy featuring gold nanoflowers to achieve low detection limits for DEHP and BPA (0.58 and 0.59 pg/mL, respectively), excellent specificity, and stability. The least-squares boosting (LSBoost) algorithm was introduced to reliably monitor the targets regardless of pH; it employs a layer that adjusts the number of multi-indexes and the parallel learning structure of an ensemble model to accurately predict concentrations by preventing overfitting and enhancing the learning effect. The ML-powered aptasensor successfully detected targets in 12 river sites with diverse pH values, exhibiting higher accuracy and reliability. To our knowledge, the platform proposed in this study is the first attempt to utilize ML for the simultaneous assessment of DEHP and BPA. Rapid biofilm formation on microplastic (MP) surfaces in marine environments and the tendency of hydrophobic pollutants to bioaccumulate may increase the exposure of organisms to ingested plastics and transport pollutants far from their sources. The role of the matter attached to MPs (MaM) in the interactions between MPs and other pollutants in marine environments is poorly understood. This paper studies pollutant sorption in MaM for three phenolic endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs): bisphenol A (BPA), 4-tert-octylphenol (4-t-OP), and 4-nonylphenol (4-NP). Polypropylene (PP), expanded polystyrene (EPS), and polylactide (PLA) MPs were exposed to an environment conducive to biofouling (Vistula Lagoon, Baltic Sea) for four weeks in summer, spring, and winter. The concentrations of EDCs in MaM and the suspended particulate matter (SPM) were similar and were 2-3 orders of magnitude higher than those in water and sediment. The type and morphology of the polymers were less significant for determining the concentrations of EDCs in MaM than the season. The concentrations were higher in the growing season than in winter. EDCs increased linearly with the increase in particulate organic carbon. The relationships between organic carbon partition coefficients and octanol/water partition coefficients indicate that hydrophobic partitioning into organic matter was the dominant mechanism of 4-t-OP and 4-NP binding in MaM and in SPM. For BPA, additional sorption mechanisms seem to be significant. In addition to the direct sorption from ambient water, the binding of phytoplankton-derived particles, most probably via attachment to extracellular polymeric substances, appears to be a source of EDCs in MPs. Rough estimates showed that the largest load of particulate matter and EDCs was attached to expanded polystyrene. The compound 4-hydroxyphenyl 4-isoprooxyphenylsulfone (BPSIP) has recently emerged as a novel alternative to bisphenol A (BPA) and has been found in various paper products. However, there is limited information available regarding the identification of BPSIP as a novel contaminant in the e-waste dismantling area. In our research, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of 16 bisphenol analogues (BPs), including BPSIP, within indoor dust samples obtained from a representative e-waste recycling facility, neighboring rural communities, and control urban communities. Out of the 16 target BPs, ten were found in both e-waste and local household dust, while only six BPs were identified in the control urban household dust. Bisphenol A (BPA) remained the predominant compound, followed by bisphenol F (BPF), bisphenol S (BPS), BPSIP and bisphenol AF (BPAF). The total concentrations of BPs in e-waste dust were notably higher compared to both local and urban household dust (p < 0.01), with BPA and BPF, in particular, exhibiting significantly elevated levels. Importantly, BPSIP was first identified in e-waste dust, and its concentration significantly exceeded that of the commonly used BPA alternative, BPAF, which justifiably merits increasing concern. Correlation analysis indicated that BPs were commonly used in the production of electronic products, and e-waste dismantling activities contributed significantly to their widespread emission. The daily intakes of BP through dust ingestion for these three population groups exceeded the recently established tolerable daily intake for BPA, especially among e-waste dismantling workers. Background: In 2019, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved a brand-new combination of linagliptin and empagliflozin in a formulation called Glyxambi® tablets for managing type 2 diabetes mellitus. Nowadays, spectrophotometric techniques occupy the first place among their peers in terms of ease of application, friendliness to the environment, and low costs., Objective: This research discusses the development of two very simple spectrophotometric protocols based on zero-order spectra for the determination of linagliptin and empagliflozin., Methods: The developed protocols were the induced dual-wavelength and absorption correction protocols. Linagliptin could be determined directly at 305 nm, at which the empagliflozin spectrum was zero-crossing. Empagliflozin was determined using the two developed protocols. The induced dual-wavelength technique was developed by calculating the equality factor of linagliptin to cancel its interference. The absorption correction technique was developed by measuring the correction absorption factor., Results: The concentration ranges of linagliptin and empagliflozin were 1-10 µg/mL and 3-30 µg/mL, respectively. Excellent recovery results were found in bulk, dosage form, and synthetic mixtures. Low LOD and LOQ values were obtained, indicating the high sensitivity of the protocols. The statistical Student's t-test was performed to compare the results of the applied and reported protocols, indicating no difference between them., Conclusion: The proposed protocols have the advantages of being straightforward, affordable, and requiring no sophisticated manipulations, just simple mathematical calculations. Increasing scientific and regulatory concern regarding environmental concentrations of bisphenol A (BPA) increases the need to understand the sources and sinks of this chemical. We developed a coupled flow network/fugacity-based fate and transport model to assess the contribution of different emissions sources to the concentration of BPA in surface water in Germany. The model utilizes BPA loadings and sinks, BPA physicochemical properties, a water flow network, environmental characteristics, and fugacity equations. The model considers industrial emissions, leaching from BPA-containing articles, wastewater treatment and bypass events, and emissions from landfills. The model also considers different scenarios that account for changes in the usage profile of BPA. Model predictions compare favorably to measured surface water concentrations, with the modeled concentrations generally falling within the range of measured values. Model scenarios that consider reductions in BPA usage due to government-mandated restrictions and voluntary reductions in usage predict falling BPA concentrations that are consistent with the most recent monitoring data. Model predictions of the contributions from different usage scenarios and wastewater treatment methods can be used to assess the efficacy of different restrictions and waste handling strategies to support efforts to evaluate the costs and benefits associated with actions aimed at reducing BPA levels in the environment. This feature of the model is of particular importance, given current efforts to update the regulations regarding BPA usage in the EU. The model indicates that as the current restriction on BPA in thermal paper works through the paper recycling process, BPA concentrations will continue to decrease. Other actions, such as upgrades to the stormwater and wastewater infrastructure to minimize the frequency of storm-related bypasses, are predicted to provide more meaningful reductions than additional restrictions on usage. Thermal printing technology requires a color developer to activate the dye under the action of heat. Bisphenol A (BPA) has traditionally been used for this purpose, although it has increasingly been replaced by bisphenol S (BPS) in recent years. Due to concerns regarding their toxicity, the Swiss authorities have banned both BPA and BPS from thermal papers since 2020. The impact of this regulatory decision was evaluated during 3 monitoring campaigns: in 2013-2014, 2019 and 2021. They were used to describe the starting point, the transition phase, and the status after entry into force of the ban, respectively. Whereas the use of BPA as color developer dropped from 82.2% in 2013/14 to 10.8% in 2021, the fraction of BPS-based thermal paper rose from 3.1% to 19.1% during the same period, despite being banned. However, Pergafast® 201 (PF201) is now the main color developer in thermal paper in Switzerland, with an occurrence of 60.3%. Other alternatives such as D-8, TGSA, PPSMU, NKK-1304, BPS-MAE, D-90 and Blue4est® have only been marginally detected. Bisphenol A (BPA) enters the environment through various industrial and consumer-related pathways. Industrial sources include BPA manufacturing and secondary industrial uses such as the manufacturing of polymers and other substances based on or containing BPA. However, secondary sources and emissions to the environment, such as those related to the consumer use of articles containing BPA, may be more important than industrial emissions. Although readily biodegradable, BPA is widely distributed in various environmental compartments and living organisms. It is still not well understood which specific sources and pathways are responsible for releasing BPA into the environment. Therefore, we developed FlowEQ, a coupled flow network and fugacity-based fate and transport model for the assessment of BPA in surface water. The work is divided into two parts. In Part I, inputs needed to support the modeling and model validation were collected. Bisphenol A was measured at 23 wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) and 21 landfills in Germany. In addition, the BPA content of 132 consumer articles from 27 article classes was analyzed. Bisphenol A concentrations in WWTPs ranged from 0.33 to 910 µg L -1 in influents and from less than 0.01 to 0.65 µg L -1 in effluents, resulting in removal efficiencies of 13%-100%. Average BPA concentrations in landfill leachate ranged from less than 0.01 to approximately 1400 µg L -1 . Bisphenol A concentrations measured in consumer articles varied significantly by type, ranging from less than 0.5 µg kg -1 in printing inks up to 1 691 700 µg kg -1 in articles made from recycled polyvinyl chloride (PVC). These concentrations were combined with information on use, leaching, and contact with water to develop estimates of loadings. Together with the results of the FlowEQ modeling presented in Part II, this assessment improves our understanding of the sources and emission pathways of BPA in surface water. The case-control study aimed to evaluate potential sources of exposure and the plasma concentrations of bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates in prepubertal children having cerebral palsy (CP) and healthy control. Blood samples of 68 CP and 70 controls were analyzed for BPA, di-(2-ethylhexyl)-phthalate (DEHP), mono-(2-ethylhexyl)-phthalate (MEHP), and dibutyl phthalate (DBP). BPA and DBP levels were similar in groups. The median DEHP and MEHP levels of the children with CP were significantly lower than those of the controls (p = 0.035, p < 0.001, respectively). Exposure to plastic food containers/bags, personal care hygiene products, household cleaners, wood/coal stove heating, and city water supplies were associated with increased odds of higher BPA and phthalate levels in children with CP. In conclusion, potential exposure sources for BPA and phthalates differ in children with CP and healthy controls, and children with CP are not exposed to higher levels of BPA and phthalates.

Herein, an alumina-based bimetallic catalyst (Cu 1 Mn 7 @γ-Al 2 O 3 ) was synthesized for bisphenol A (BPA) degradation in the catalytic ozonation process. The catalytic ozonation system could degrade 93.9% of BPA within 30 min under the conditions of pH = 7.0, 10 mg L -1 O 3 concentration, and 24 g L -1 catalyst dosage compared to ozone alone (21.0%). The enhanced BPA degradation efficiency was attributed to the abundant catalytic sites and synergistic effects of Cu and Mn. The results revealed that the synergistic interaction between Cu and Mn effectively accelerated the electron transfer process on the catalyst surface, thus promoting the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Further studies indicated that the BPA degradation in Cu 1 Mn 7 @γ-Al 2 O 3 /O 3 system predominantly followed the ·OH and O 2 ·- oxidation pathway. Based on the density functional theory (DFT) calculations and intermediates detected by LC-MS analysis, two pathways for BPA degradation in the Cu 1 Mn 7 @γ-Al 2 O 3 /O 3 system were proposed. The toxicity estimation illustrated that the toxicity of BPA and its byproducts was effectively reduced in the Cu 1 Mn 7 @γ-Al 2 O 3 /O 3 system. Plenty of emerging bisphenol A (BPA) substitutes rise to wait for assessment of bioconcentration and metabolism disruption. Computational methods are useful to fill the data gap in chemical risk assessment, such as automated quantitative structure-activity relationship (AutoQSAR). It is not clear how AutoQSAR performs in predicting the bioconcentration factor (BCF) in adult zebrafish. Herein, AutoQSAR was used to predict the logBCFs of BPA, bisphenol AF (BPAF), bisphenol B, bisphenol F and bisphenol S (BPS). For the test set, a linear relationship was shown between the observed and predicted logBCFs with a slope of 0.97. The predicted logBCFs of these five bisphenols were quite close to their experimental data with a slope of 0.94, suggesting better performance than directed message passing neural networks and EPI Suite with a slope of 0.69 and 0.61, respectively. Thus, AutoQSAR is powerful in modeling logBCFs in fish with minimal time and expertise. To link bioconcentration with metabolic effects, female zebrafish were exposed to BPA, BPAF and BPS for metabolomics analysis. BPA caused a significant disturbance in amino acid metabolism, while BPAF and BPS significantly altered another three metabolic pathways, showing chemical-specific responses. BPAF with the highest logBCF elicited the strongest metabolomic responses reflected by the metabolic effect level index, followed by BPA and BPS. Bisphenols are widely used in various branches of industry for the production of plastics. They penetrate to the natural environment and thus living organisms. As endocrine disruptors, bisphenols have adverse effects on various internal organs and systems. Contrary to humans, the knowledge of the exposure of wild terrestrial mammals to bisphenols is extremely limited. Therefore, this study for the first time assessed the exposure level of wild boars to three bisphenols commonly used in industry (i.e. bisphenol A - BPA, bisphenol S - BPS and bisphenol F - BPF) using hair sample analysis in liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). The presence of BPA and/or BPS has been noted in the samples collected from >80 % of animals included in the study (n = 54), while the presence of BPF was not found in any sample. At least one of the bisphenols was present in every sample tested. Mean concentrations of BPA and BPS in the hair of wild boars were 151.40 ± 135.10 pg/mg dry weight (dw.) and 29.40 ± 36.97 pg./mg dw, respectively. Concentrations of BPA and BPS in females were statistically higher than in males (p < 0.05). Moreover, statistically significantly higher concentration levels of BPA (and not BPS) in the areas with higher degree of industrialization and higher human population density were also found. This is the first study concerning the use of hair samples to assess the exposure of wild terrestrial mammals to bisphenols. The obtained results show that an analysis of the hair may be a useful tool of biomonitoring bisphenols in wild animals. The presence of BPA and BPS in wild boar hair in relatively high concentration also suggests that these substances may have an influence on the health status not only in humans and aquatic animals, but also in wild terrestrial mammals. Bisphenol A (BPA) and its analogs such as bisphenol Z (BPZ) are widely used in the production of consumer products, but few studies have investigated the associations among BPA, its analogs, and chlorinated derivatives (collectively, BPs) and risk for NTDs. This study investigated the associations between concentrations of BPs in the placenta and risk for NTDs. This was a case-control study including 122 NTDs and 164 controls. BPs in the placenta were determined using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The associations between BPs and NTD risk were evaluated using conventional logistic regression and weighted quantile sum regression (WQS) models. In the logistic regression, exposure to higher levels of BPA and BPZ was associated with increased NTD risk (odds ratio [OR] = 3.17, 95 % confidence interval [CI], 1.22-8.22; OR = 3.11, 95 % CI, 1.20-8.09, respectively). Meanwhile, a significant dose-response relationship was found between BPA and BPZ concentrations and NTD risk. In the WQS model, a quartile increase in WQS index resulted in 4.34 (95 % CI: 1.69, 11.20) higher odds for NTDs, and BPA and BPZ accounted for most of the weight index in the joint effects of BPs. Evidence suggests that oral exposure to bisphenol A (BPA) may result in adverse metabolic and neurobehavioral effects. The aim of the present meta-analysis is to examine this association based on systematically selected laboratory rodent studies published from 2012 to 2021 and sourced from Scopus, Web of Science, EmBase, and PubMed. Articles satisfying eligibility and inclusion criteria were included for the calculation of the summary standardised mean difference (SMD). Subgroup analysis and subsequent dose-response analysis were conducted if applicable. In total, 32 studies were analysed for 6 metabolic endpoints (cholesterol, triglycerides, insulin, glucose, leptin, and adiponectin) and 6 neurobehavioral endpoints (locomotor activity, exploratory, anxiety, depression, spatial learning and memory, non-spatial learning and memory). Summary SMDs implied that no significant effects were observed in endpoints considered. The dose was not determined as a significant moderator with regards to medium or high heterogeneity; however, there was significant impairment of spatial learning and memory at health-based guidance value ('HBGV') (0.05-9 mg (kg bw) -1 day -1 ) and 'High' (>9 mg (kg bw) -1 day -1 ) dose group. As a result, an indicative toxicological reference dose value of 0.034 mg (kg bw) -1 day -1 was proposed due to large variability. Potential harm to spatial learning and memory from BPA exposure requires further investigation. In the domain of big data geographic screening for environmental pollutants, the expeditious dissemination of testing results to environmental investigation professionals is pivotal in facilitating comprehensive analysis and the implementation of more efficacious strategies for managing environmental issues. However, this endeavor can prove to be particularly arduous when conducting examinations in remote, resource-scarce rural areas and field environments, where deficient infrastructure often emerges as the principal impediment to unimpeded environmental monitoring. Therefore, the development of a reliable and portable monitoring strategy with the ability to analyze large amounts of data is highly required. Here, a deep-learning (DL)-assisted portable sensing strategy was developed based on thermal and pH dual-responsive nano-structural superwetting surfaces, for highly reliable, quick, and field monitoring of environmental pollutants. In our experiment, bisphenol A (BPA) was selected as the representative pollute. The achieved limit of detection, attaining a remarkably low value of 1.05 μM, unequivocally adhered to stringent international testing standards for evaluating the migration of BPA in thermal paper. Based on a DL image classification algorithm, highly precise predictions regarding the migration of BPA concentration were achieved, with an accuracy rate exceeding 99%. Furthermore, it successfully facilitated automated and exceedingly reliable monitoring of the migration of BPA from thermal paper within the principal provinces of thermal paper production in China. This strategy engenders the potential to establish correlations between environmental pollutant concentrations in specific regions and the prevalence of certain human ailments.

Objectives: To evaluate the bisphenol release of different brands of clear aligner materials., Materials and Methods: Six different clear aligner materials were used in this study: Duran (Scheu-Dental GmbH, Iserlohn, Germany), Zendura Flx (Bay Materials LLC, Fremont, CA, USA), Zendura A (Bay Materials), Essix (Raintree Essix Inc., Metairie, LA, USA), Taglus Premium (Laxmi Dental Export Pvt. Ltd, Mumbai, India), and Smart Track (Align Technology, San Jose, CA, USA). The samples were kept in saline solution for 8 weeks in airtight test tubes at 37°C. The ratio between the weights of the samples and the volumes of the dilutions was prepared as 0.1 g/mL as suggested by International Standards Organization parameters. To evaluate the bisphenol release of materials, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry analysis was performed. Data were analyzed with the Kruskal-Wallis test (α = 0.05)., Results: Bisphenol A (BPA) values in Smart Track were found to be significantly higher than the Zendura A and Zendura Flx groups (P = .02, P = .03, respectively). There was no statistically significant difference among the samples in terms of Bisphenol F (BPF) values (P = .108). In terms of Bisphenol S (BPS) values, a statistically significant difference was found (P = .002) indicating that Smart Track released significantly more BPS than Zendura A (P = .001)., Conclusions: Under the test conditions, the amounts of leached BPA, BPF, and BPS were less than the reference dose for daily intake. Background: Bisphenol A (BPA) exposure has been linked to adverse childhood neurodevelopment, but little is known about whether BPA substitutes exposures are also related to childhood neurodevelopment., Objectives: To investigate the associations of exposure to BPA and its substitutes with infant neurodevelopment at 12 months., Methods: A total of 420 infants at 12 months were included from the Laizhou Wan (Bay) Birth Cohort in Shandong, China. Urinary concentrations of BPA and its substitutes including bisphenol S (BPS), bisphenol B (BPB), bisphenol AF (BPAF), bisphenol AP (BPAP), bisphenol P (BPP) and bisphenol Z (BPZ) were measured. Developmental quotient (DQ) scores based on the Gesell Development Schedules (GDS) were used to evaluate infant neurodevelopment. The multivariable linear regression and weighted quantile sum (WQS) regression were applied to estimate the associations of exposure to individual bisphenols and their mixtures with DQ scores, respectively. Sex-stratified analyses were also performed., Results: BPA was detected in most infants (89.05%) and had the highest median concentration (0.709 ng/mL) among all bisphenols. BPA substitutes except BPZ were ubiquitous in infants' urine samples (>70%), and BPS showed the highest median concentration (0.064 ng/mL) followed by BPAP (0.036 ng/mL), BPAF (0.028 ng/mL), BPP (0.015 ng/mL) and BPB (0.013 ng/mL). In multivariable linear regression, only BPAF exposure was inversely associated with social DQ scores among all infants (β = -0.334; 95% CI: -0.650, -0.019). After sex stratification, this inverse association was significant in girls (β = -0.605; 95% CI: -1.030, -0.180). Besides, BPA exposure was negatively related to gross motor DQ scores in boys (β = -1.061; 95% CI: -2.078, -0.045). The production of polycarbonate, a high-performance transparent plastic, employs bisphenol A, which is a prominent endocrine-disrupting compound. Polycarbonates are frequently used in the manufacturing of food, bottles, storage containers for newborns, and beverage packaging materials. Global production of BPA in 2022 was estimated to be in the region of 10 million tonnes. About 65-70% of all bisphenol A is used to make polycarbonate plastics. Bisphenol A leaches from improperly disposed plastic items and enters the environment through wastewater from plastic-producing industries, contaminating, sediments, surface water, and ground water. The concentration BPA in industrial and domestic wastewater ranges from 16 to 1465 ng/L while in surface water it has been detected 170-3113 ng/L. Wastewater treatment can be highly effective at removing BPA, giving reductions of 91-98%. Regardless, the remaining 2-9% of BPA will continue through to the environment, with low levels of BPA commonly observed in surface water and sediment in the USA and Europe. The health effects of BPA have been the subject of prolonged public and scientific debate, with PubMed listing more than 17,000 scientific papers as of 2023. Bisphenol A poses environmental and health hazards in aquatic systems, affecting ecosystems and human health. While several studies have revealed its presence in aqueous streams, environmentally sound technologies should be explored for its removal from the contaminated environment. Concern is mostly related to its estrogen-like activity, although it can interact with other receptor systems as an endocrine-disrupting chemical. Cash register receipts made of thermal paper expose workers and shoppers to endocrine-disrupting chemicals and contaminate paper recycling streams. In 2022, 571 receipts were collected from retail stores in the United States and tested for developer chemicals using attenuated total reflection infrared spectroscopy. The results were compared to a 2017 study of 167 receipts to determine changes in color developer use over time. Receipts were tested as-is and a subset were additionally subjected to a simple extraction that improved detection of receipt chemicals. Bisphenol S was the most frequently detected developer (85% of tested receipts), followed by Pergafast 201 (12%), bisphenol A (1%); and Appvion Alpha Free, D-8, and NKK-1304 (each below 1%). NKK-1304 is reported here for the first time in a scientific journal. The frequency of bisphenol A usage in receipts decreased and the frequency of bisphenol S and Pergafast 201 increased between 2017 and 2022, particularly among large companies. National retailers were more likely than regional or local retailers to have adopted non-bisphenol alternatives. The consumption of packaged water is growing rapidly in both urban and rural centres in Burkina Faso. Bisphenol A (BPA) and trace metals are among the compounds used in the manufacture of plastic packaging, and their presence in water can pose a health risk to consumers due to their alleged toxicity. Therefore, this study explores the transfer of these compounds from plastic packaging to mineral water in Sudano-Sahelian climatic conditions. Ten samples of packaged sachet water commercialised in Ouagadougou were studied. An absence of BPA in the borehole water used to produce packaged water has been shown. The transfer of BPA into mineral water increases with storage temperature. The BPA that appears in packaged water degrades over time. BPA concentrations ranged from 0 to 0.38 mg/L after two weeks of storage, 0 to 0.8 mg/L after four weeks of storage and 0 to 0.35 mg/L after 8 weeks of storage. Analysis of the trace metals showed steadily increasing concentrations from the second to the sixth weeks, with concentrations ranging from 0 to 9.7 µg/L for cadmium and from 0 to 0.13 mg/L for iron in the sachet water samples.

Bisphenol A (BPA), tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA), and their substitutes are commonly used in everyday products. However, large-scale internal exposure levels of them in China, the factors influencing on them, and the associated health risks were not systematically investigated still. In the present study, there were 1157 morning urine samples collected from residents of 26 provincial capitals in China for the measurement of BPA and seven bisphenol analogues, as well as TBBPA and its substitutes, i.e., tetrachlorobisphenol A and 4,4'-sulphonylbis(2,6-dibromophenol). Bisphenol analogues (BPs) are ubiquitous in the environment and have gained significant attention regarding their associated health risks. However, there is a lack of comprehensive biomonitoring data on BPs and their metabolites in human urine. To address this, we conducted a study evaluate the exposure to BPs in the general population of Guangzhou, China. A total of 1440 urine samples were collected from volunteers and analyzed for the presence of BPs and their metabolites after being pooled into 36 groups based on age and gender. The findings revealed the common detection of ten free-form BPs, as well as the urinary metabolites of BPA and BPS, in the pooled urine samples. BPA was the predominant free-form compound, constituting 50% of the total BPs. The primary urinary metabolites of BPA and BPS are BPA-G and BPS-G, respectively, indicating glucuronidation as their primary metabolic pathway. The composition of urinary metabolites of BPA and BPS varied by age and sex, while the concentration of total BPs in urine was not significantly associated with age and sex. Enzymatic hydrolysis yielded a mean amplification of individual BPs concentrations in urine samples ranging from 1.8 times (BPA) to 4.6 times (BPS). Based on the outcomes, it was estimated that conjugated forms accounted for 96.9%, 96.2%, 94.7%, 94.1%, 92.6%, 89.1%, 87.3%, 87.2%, 87.1% and 85.8% of BPP, BPAF, BPZ, BPE, BPAP, BPF, BPA, BPC, BPS and BPF, respectively, in the pooled urine samples. Preliminary risk assessments indicated that the estimated daily intake of BPA was much higher than the latest proposed tolerable daily intake. Bisphenol A (BPA) and its four analogues have been receiving considerable attention owing to their potential endocrine disrupting effects. The European Food Safety Authority has proposed 0.04 ng/kg·body weight/day of thetemporary tolerable daily intake for BPA. Therefore, a more sensitive analytical method was urgently needed for the necessity of the risk reassessment of bisphenols (BPs). The matrix effect of Chinese foods is a challenge for the analysis of ultra-trace analytes due to the presence of various spices. A multi-immunoaffinity column (mIAC) was prepared for the purification of BPA, BPB, BPF, BPS, and BPAF in Chinese foods following ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry detection (UHLPC-MS/MS). The recoveries of each of BPs were ranged from 84.6% to 116.7%, and the intra-day precision and inter-day precision were ranged from 1.6% to 12.4%, and from 4.1% to 14.0%, respectively. Bisphenol A and its structural analogues (BPs) are widely used chemicals in electronics devices. To get insight into the occupational exposure to the full-time employees compared with the residents, urinary BPs in workers dismantling e-waste and in nearby residents were compared. Only 4 BPs among the tested 8 congeners, bisphenol AF (BPAF), bisphenol A, bisphenol S (BPS), and bisphenol F (BPF), were extensively detected with the detection frequencies of 100%, 99%, 98.7%, 51.3%. The median concentration of bisphenol A was 8.48 ng/mL, followed by BPAF (1.05 ng/mL), BPS (0.115 ng/mL), and BPF (0.110 ng/mL). The 4 detected BPs had a median concentration (Σ 4 BPs) ranging from 0.950 to 64.5 ng/mL in all volunteers, with a median value of 10.2 ng/mL. Result indicated the median concentration of ∑ 4 BPs in worker's urine was significantly higher (14.2 ng/mL) than those in residents in nearby towns (4.52 ng/mL and 5.37 ng/mL) (p < 0.05), suggesting a BPs' occupational exposure risk related to e-waste dismantling. Besides, urinary ∑ 4 BPs' median concentrations for the employees in family workshops (14.5 ng/mL) were significantly higher than those in plants with centralized management (9.36 ng/mL). Among volunteers, higher ∑ 4 BPs were observed in groups of aged above 50 years, males, or body weight under average with no significant correlations. The estimated daily intake of bisphenol A did not exceed the reference dose (50 μg/kg bw/day) recommended by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. In this research, excess levels of BPs were recorded for the full-time employees in e-waste dismantling sites. Pseudoestrogene bisphenol A (BPA) can be important ingredient of thermochromic inks, increasingly used materials in thermal printing paper, security printing, advertising, design and as temperature indicators in medicine and food industry. BPA mass fraction in thermochromic inks can be up to several percent. Hence, disposal of items with thermochromic prints pose a risk of environmental pollution. In this work BPA mass fraction was monitored during anaerobic degradation of papers with thermochromic prints in soil in both matrices: papers and soil. The degradation conditions simulated deeper layers of waste at a landfill site. Six types of papers with prints of thermochromic ink containing 2% of BPA were subjected to anaerobic degradation over up to 150 days. Bisphenols (BPs) have gained significant attention due to their extensive use in the production of medical equipment, packaging materials, and everyday commodities. Urgent attention is required for assessing and identifying the risks associated with BP exposure to the environment and human health, as well as developing regulatory strategies. In this paper, 29 common BPs were selected as the research object, high-performance BP substitutes with environmental and human health friendliness characteristics were designed and screened. The above eight BP substitutes were considered as examples, and the first-level evaluation indicators of BPs and their substitutes were predicted using a random forest classification/regression model. Subsequently, the key indicators affecting the first-level evaluation indicators were ranked. The ranking results were environmental friendliness (64.30%) > human health risk (18.00%) > functionality (17.69%), indicating that environmental friendliness was the main influencing factor for the first-level evaluation indicators of BPs and their substitutes. Therefore, the study employed density functional theory (DFT) to simulate the biodegradation pathways of BPs and their substitutes in contaminated soil and landfill leachate, using Derivative-50 as an example. The Arxula yeast bisphenol screen (A-YBS) utilizes the bioluminescent Arxula adeninivorans yeast-based reporter cells for tailored analysis of bisphenols, one of the major endocrine-disrupting compound groups. For the first time, this bioreporter has been applied on the high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) adsorbent surface to develop a respective planar bioluminescence bioassay (pA-YBS). The goal was to combine the advantages of HPTLC with a more selective bioassay detection for bisphenols. The performance of this pA-YBS bioluminescence bioassay was demonstrated by calculating the half-maximal effective concentration (EC 50 ) of bisphenols compared to references. The EC 50 ranged from 267 pg/band for bisphenol Z and 322 pg/band for bisphenol A (BPA) to > 1 ng/band for other bisphenols (BPC, BPE, BPF, and BPS) and references (17β-estradiol and 17α-ethinylestradiol). The EC 50 value of BPA was three times more sensitive in signal detection than that of 17β-estradiol. The visual or videodensitometric limit of detection of BPA was about 200 pg/zone. The higher signal intensity and sensitivity for BPA confirmed the tailored bioassay selectivity compared to the existing estrogen screen bioassay. It worked on different types of HPTLC silica gel plates. This HPTLC-UV/Vis/FLD-pA-YBS bioluminescence bioassay method was used to analyze complex mixtures such as six tin can migrates, five thermal papers, and eleven botanicals. The detected estrogenic compound zones in the tin can migrates were successfully verified via the duplex planar yeast antagonist estrogen screen (pYAES) bioassay. The two bisphenols A and S were identified in one out of five thermal papers and confirmed with high-resolution mass spectrometry. No bisphenols were detected in the botanicals investigated via the pA-YBS bioluminescence bioassay. However, the botanicals proved to contain phytoestrogens as detected via the pYAES bioassay, which confirmed the tailored bioassay selectivity. Bisphenol A (BPA) and parabens (PBs) are chemicals that are extensively used in personal care products (PCPs). In early childhood development, hearing is critical to speech and language development, communication, and learning. In vitro and in vivo, BPA/PBs exhibited neurotoxicity through elevated levels of oxidative stress. BPA also has the potential to be an ototoxicant. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the association of exposure to BPA/PBs with sensorineural hearing loss in children. A cross-sectional study based on hearing tests was conducted. This study enrolled 320 children aged 6-12 years from elementary school. Urinary BPA and PB concentrations were analyzed by using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Logistic regression models were employed to determine the association of BPA/PB exposure with sensorineural hearing loss. Children with sensorineural hearing loss had higher BPA concentrations than normal-hearing children (0.22 ng/ml vs. 0.10 ng/ml, p = 0.05). After adjustment for covariates, the risk of hearing loss at middle frequencies reached 1.83-fold (95% CI: 1.12-2.99) when BPA concentrations increased by 1 log10. The risk of slight hearing loss reached 2.24-fold (95% CI: 1.05-4.78) when children had a tenfold increase in ethyl paraben (EP) concentration. This study clarifies the role of exposure to BPA/PBs in hearing loss in children. Bisphenol F (BPF) and bisphenol S (BPS) are emerging bisphenols, which have become the main substitutes for bisphenol A (BPA) in industrial production and are also considered as new environmental pollution challenges. Thus, the necessity for an effective approach to remove BPF and BPS is essential. In this study, fulvic acid (FA) was used to modify Co-Fe binary metals (CFO) for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation. The characterization results demonstrated that CFO changed significantly in morphology after compounding with FA, with smaller particle size and 5.6 times larger specific surface area, greatly increasing the active sites of catalyst; Moreover, humic acid-like compounds increased the surface functional groups of CFO, especially phenolic hydroxyl, which could effectively prolong the PMS activation. The concentration of all reactive species, such as SO 4 • - , •OH, O 2 • - , and 1 O 2 increased in FA@CFO/PMS system. As a result, the degradation efficiency of CFO for both BPF and BPS was significantly improved after compounding FA, which also had a wide range of pH applications. The degradation pathways of both BPF and BPS were proposed based on liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) analysis and the density functional theory (DFT) calculations. This study investigated concentration levels of ten bisphenols (BPs) in 13 Chinese commercial fresh low temperature dairy milk samples (fresh milk) of main local and national brands with or without enzyme hydrolysis. The results showed that at least two BPs were detected in each fresh milk sample without enzyme hydrolysis and the respective mean concentrations of bisphenol AF (BPAF), bisphenol B (BPB), bisphenol C (BPC), bisphenol F (BPF), bisphenol A (BPA), bisphenol S (BPS), bisphenol AP (BPAP), bisphenol PP (BPP), bisphenol Z (BPZ), and bisphenol E (BPE) were 0.73, 0.61, 1.86, 0.87, 0.42, 0.11, 1.06, 1.42, 1.5, and 0.04 ng/mL, while their respective detection frequencies ranged from 23.1-92.3%. These results indicated the frequent detection of BPs in fresh milk samples. With enzyme hydrolysis, the respective mean concentrations of BPAF, BPA, BPB, BPC, BPF, BPS, and BPAP were increased 7.1-107.1%, indicating the long-ignored importance of enzyme hydrolysis. The respective average estimated daily intakes (EDIs) of BPA by adult and children in China via fresh milk were 32.5 and 37.5 ng/kg bw/d, indicating that BPA in fresh milk was a crucial source to human. Six out of nine other BPs had higher average EDIs than that of BPA, among which the EDI of BPAP was almost three times that of BPA, suggesting the widespread contamination of other BPs in Chinese fresh milk., (© 2023. The concept of the study resulted from numerous concerns around bisphenol A (BPA) and bisphenol S (BPS) in aquatic environments. In this study, river water and sediment microcosms highly polluted with bisphenols and bioaugmented with two BPs-removing bacterial strains were constructed. The study aimed to determine the rate of high-concentrated BPA and BPS (BPs) removal from river water and sediment microniches, and the effect of water bioaugmentation with bacterial consortium on the removal rates of these pollutants. Moreover, the impact of introduced strains and exposure to BPs on the structural and functional composition of the autochthonous bacterial communities was elucidated. Our findings indicate that the removal activity of autochthonous bacteria was sufficient for effectively BPA elimination and reducing BPS content in the microcosms. The number of introduced bacterial cells decreased continuously until day 40, and on consecutive sampling days, no bioaugmented cells were detected. Sequencing analysis of the total 16S rRNA genes revealed that the community composition in bioaugmented microcosms amended with BPs differed significantly from those treated either with bacteria or BPs. A metagenomic analysis found an increase in the abundance of proteins responsible for xenobiotics removal in BPs-amended microcosms.
